Day 01
Arrival in Addis Ababa

Your journey begins in Addis Ababa, the vibrant capital and diplomatic hub of Africa. Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, guests are welcomed by their guide and transferred to the hotel. After some time to relax, enjoy a city introduction tour including the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the famous early human fossil Lucy.

Later, visit Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of the most important religious sites in Ethiopia. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian welcome dinner with cultural music and dance.

In the morning, fly north to Gondar, often called the “Camelot of Africa.” This historic city was once the capital of Ethiopia during the 17th century. After hotel check-in, explore the remarkable Fasil Ghebbi, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with impressive castles built by emperors such as Emperor Fasilides.

Later visit the beautiful Debre Berhan Selassie Church, famous for its ceiling covered with hundreds of angelic faces. As Timkat approaches, the city becomes vibrant with pilgrims, priests, and colorful decorations preparing for the festival.

Take a scenic day trip to the magnificent Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for dramatic escarpments, deep valleys, and rare wildlife. Enjoy panoramic views and short walks through the highlands where you may encounter the endemic Gelada monkeys and other unique species.

The landscape offers breathtaking photo opportunities and insight into Ethiopia’s natural heritage before returning to Gondar in the afternoon.

Today marks the beginning of the Timkat festivities known as Ketera. Throughout Gondar, priests dressed in colorful robes lead vibrant processions while carrying sacred Tabot from churches to ceremonial pools.

The most spectacular gathering takes place at Fasilides Bath, where thousands of worshippers assemble. Chanting, drumming, and spiritual songs fill the air as the sacred objects are placed in tents beside the water, preparing for the next day’s holy celebration.

Today is the highlight of the tour as Ethiopia celebrates Timkat, commemorating the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River. At dawn, thousands gather at Fasilides Bath where priests bless the water and reenact the baptism ritual.

Pilgrims celebrate by splashing holy water, singing hymns, and dancing joyfully. The colorful umbrellas, traditional white clothing, and chanting priests create one of Africa’s most visually spectacular religious festivals.

After the festival excitement, enjoy a relaxed day exploring Gondar’s cultural heritage. Visit local markets filled with spices, handmade crafts, and traditional clothing. Engage with local artisans and learn about Ethiopian coffee traditions during a ceremonial coffee experience.

In the afternoon, visit nearby villages to observe everyday life in the Ethiopian highlands and gain deeper insight into local traditions and hospitality.

Travel to the sacred town of Lalibela, one of Ethiopia’s most revered pilgrimage sites. Built in the 12th century during the reign of King Lalibela, the town is famous for its extraordinary rock-hewn churches carved directly into solid volcanic rock.

Begin exploring the first cluster of these remarkable structures, each interconnected through tunnels and passageways.

Spend the day visiting more of Lalibela’s churches including the iconic Bete Giyorgis, shaped like a giant cross and considered the masterpiece of Ethiopian rock architecture.

These sacred sites remain active places of worship, where pilgrims gather for prayer and priests perform ancient liturgical ceremonies that have remained unchanged for centuries.

Fly back to Addis Ababa and enjoy free time for souvenir shopping in local markets such as Shiro Meda Market, known for traditional Ethiopian textiles and handicrafts.

In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner featuring authentic Ethiopian cuisine, traditional music, and cultural dance performances.

After breakfast, transfer to Bole International Airport for your international departure. Depart with unforgettable memories of Ethiopia’s spectacular Timkat Festival, ancient heritage, and warm hospitality.
